35 years of King Tut's Wah Wah Hut...

By Amy Middleton

2025 marks 35 years of the iconic King Tut's Wah Wah Hut being at the heart of Scotland's music scene.

We're taking a look back at our highlights of the past year and what this landmark year has in store for us...

2024 was an exciting year for us here at King Tut’s with plenty of success to celebrate!

Our iconic grassroots music venue was honoured with the Access All Areas Legacy Award, recognising our extraordinary contributions to the live music industry and unwavering commitment to fostering musical talent over the past three and a half decades. We were also named Best Live Entertainment Venue at the Scottish Hospitality Awards, maintaining our status as a must-visit destination for both emerging and established artists.

In November, our very own Davie Millar and Scott Dorman were awarded the prestigious Designated Premises Manager of the Year title at Scotland’s Best Bar None Awards. Their hard work ensures every fan and artist who step though our doors have the most memorable, top-quality experiences, making us the legendary venue we are today!

We hosted a phenomenal 268 gigs and four festivals last year, welcoming almost 54,000 music fans through our doors to see the very best emerging acts in the industry.

And 2025 is set to be another exciting year, starting with what has been another incredibly successful New Year’s Revolution, and our upcoming 35th birthday celebrations.

On Monday 10th February (35 years to the day that the first ever gig took place at King Tut’s!), we’ll be marking three and a half decades of being at the heart of Scotland’s music scene with a special panel event that dives into our rich history, cultural impact, and what lies ahead for us. The panel will feature an eclectic mix of artists and industry insiders who’ve been part of our incredible journey:

•               Aidan Moffat – the unmistakable voice of Arab Strap, known for shaping Scotland’s alternative soundscape.

•               Katie Lynch – rising indie star performing as Theo Bleak, representing the next wave of talent King Tut’s proudly champions.

•               Fiona Shepherd – esteemed rock and pop critic, offering unique insight into Glasgow’s music evolution.

•               Billy Kennedy – acclaimed musician from Frightened Rabbit and current project Haiver, reflecting on King Tut’s as a pivotal stage in countless artists’ careers.

Together, they’ll share personal stories, reflect on iconic moments from King Tut's past, discuss the evolution of live music spaces, and explore our role in creating unforgettable nights.

We’re so proud to have become a cornerstone of Scotland’s music scene, nurturing the next generation of talent at the very start of their careers - from The 1975 and Florence and the Machine, to Radiohead and perhaps most notably this year, Oasis.

Since opening our doors in February 1990, King Tut’s has been more than just a venue - we’ve been the launchpad for global superstars and a second home for music lovers. From Oasis’s game-changing 1993 gig to early performances by Sam Fender, Paolo Nutini, and countless others, we have earned our reputation as the place to find your next favourite artist, and we are proud to continue to be the home of music discovery in Scotland.

Celebrate 35 years of unforgettable nights, groundbreaking performances, and the spirit of live music with us on Monday 10th February. Tickets to 35 YEARS OF KING TUT’S: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE are available here - see you there!
